Né Qui Né Lì

  |

Né Qui Né Lì (or, Neither Here Nor There) is a photographic/book narrative project that deals with notions of displacement, identity and belonging. It is made up of two elements: an interactive printed book and a circular mounted photographic collage.

It is rather unnerving to take a hobby knife to a photograph of yourself, but the blank gap that is left of the process is full of possibilities. Freed from the aesthetic constraints of my visual representation as a child in Italy, I am able to fill my silhouette with another spatial reality that constructs my identity. The there and then of my childhood in Italy thus merges with the here and now of my life in the UK, suspending my non-figure neither here nor there, creating a parallel between the then and the now. I am, at the same time, equally both and neither
